As an author, I'm a risk taker. Sure, writing seems pretty tame, sitting at home at my desk, typing at my computer.
The scary part is when I let loose something I've worked so hard on to create.Will readers like it? That's the big question.
So far, I'm happy to say they do. I now have 12 reviews for Her Handyman, my new contemporary romance, and 11 of them are positive. Since not every reader has the same taste as I do, I'm not too concerned about one stray.

I really liked Her Handyman. I read - a lot and more and more I feel like I'm reading the same book. Her Handyman had some different characters and an unusual plot. Very enjoyable read.

We're all risk-takers, aren't we? At least as soon as we put our books out there. I know a couple of authors who write but hoard their ms like they were gold. These people are terrified of allowing other to see, and maybe even to criticize.
ReplyDeleteI'm very pleased and proud of you that you don't obsess over one bad rating. The others makes it appear petty and downright silly. If only she knew.
I was so busy when that review came in I didn't have time to obsess over it. I did check her other reviews, and noticed she was not very kind to two other people out of I believe maybe 8 reviews she did.

ReplyDeleteI found the stock photos at Dreamstime.com and then sent them to my cover designer, Stephen Walker of SR Walker Designs, who also suggested a brick background, which I picked out. He put it all together fantastically. He's very reasonable. I could not have done it myself!
